Kayze leads with minimalist, organic musicianship, amid trap rhythms and basic lyrical repeats, throughout a revealing and honest Hold Up, which is both melodically seductive and refreshingly real.
Hold Up is equal parts poetic and personal, following a single musical loop and emerging accompanied by complimenting vocals that consistently descend.
Kayze is a rap artist and producer who also dwells in genres of pop and R&B. Originally from India, Kayze started making music after moving to Arizona in 2017 for his bachelor’s education at Arizona State University. He has performed at several big venues in Arizona and India, including Aura Nightclub and Arizona State University.
Kayze’s music is heavily influenced by his Indian background, as well as by the hip hop and trap music he’s heard since moving to the United States. He has a couple of songs with over 50,000 streams on Spotify, and one of his songs has over 100 videos made on TikTok. He has also performed with Indian music legend Guru Randhawa.
The song, which has a powerful groove and a definite sense of individuality, works its magic in terms of enchantment and attracts curiosity for the rest of the Kayze collection. The second drop into the full rhythm is tremendous, with subtle oriental flavors in the background, and as such, the music hits with lasting impact.
The music’s mellow and dreamy serenity masterfully contrasts with the words’ outright intensity and tremendous immensity – so much so that a single listen is far from enough to connect with every notion and moment truly.
Kayze’s “Hold Up” is an emotionally resonant and sonically diverse song that is sure to get stuck in your head for days. Excellent production, honest lyrics, and a laid-back and confident delivery make this one of the best songs of 2022.
