“Diamond In a Rough” by “Majorkyz” is an awesome piece of work to all the audience out there. There’s a really comforting warmth to this song, it’s one that softens the high energy of the melody and the rhythm a little bit and makes for a very classic-sounding recording. The hip-hop vibe comes forward in every possible way, but that softness is something that is present in everything from the rhythm to the soundscape, to the melody, and indeed the vocal performance itself. The feeling is of it being a very natural performance, which reinforces the independence of the track, the artist, and the individuality that thrives as part of the creative process.
Majorkyz ‘ track brings a little bit of dreamlike ambiance and drives it along with some mellow yet confident rap, gradually adding in those hip-hop and r&b vibes. The backing track is really something. The beat is unusually light, the synth riff playing throughout the backdrop has a sound that is equal parts calming and slightly haunting. The artist’s leading voice on top of this has, as mentioned, a mellow presentation to it, but with enough off an up close and personal recording that you can pick out and appreciate the tone of his voice and the style of his flow. The whole song has quite a striking atmosphere to it, but for the most part, it’s a low-energy piece of music, the kind of track hip-hop fans could vibe to on a long journey or wind down to in the evening.
Production wise it’s a job well done. Not just in the creativity present throughout the instrumentation and the effects and the structure, but also in the way that each of the voices has been incorporated into the mix. The focus remains on the song as a whole, rather than constantly drawing your attention to the main voice or any particular lyric. In a lot of ways the backing track soaks up the vocal and everything fits well together.
Structurally the whole track works beautifully. The instrumental breaks are well placed and long enough to really let you wind down and relax in between lyrics, plus the subtle yet addictively happy soundscape that drives these breaks add even more to the enjoyment of the track in general. Musically, it’s a whole lot of good vibes that would be perfectly suited to a Saturday night gathering – the kind where a little bit of rap and hip hop has the power to bring everyone together, letting them relax and unwind after a hectic week of work.
