If you haven’t heard of Ahmad McCown but you’re a fan of R&B and soul, real music; guitars, drums, pianos, emotions, harmonies, awesomeness – you need to jump on this train straight away. Ahmad McCown has tested the waters of the mainstream music industry in his early career so the rest of us didn’t have to bother. He has crafted his career on his own terms, and the result is phenomenal. “What’s Best For Me” is the recently released track by this awesome soul with a unique and great vibe to all the audience out there.
It all started with a stereo, a keyboard, and a Georgia-born/Delaware-raised boy with a dream. The moment Ahmad was able to quote song lyrics as a toddler, he knew he found a new love; that new love was music. From that special day, Ahmad McCown was listening to the sounds of legends such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, and Luther Vandross. In addition to being introduced to these talented artists, McCown became heavily influenced by artists in the names of Tevin Campbell, Babyface, Boyz II Men, Musiq Soulchild, Donell Jones, and many others as well.
The honesty of the track is endearing, and this, combined with the simplicity of the melody and the vocal, makes for a really relatable and likable song. You feel quite a connection to the singer in this track, an unusual but comforting effect. The way it’s written and the closeness of the vocal has a genuine and accessible ambiance to it; you don’t feel like he’s trying to be separate from his listeners, or elitist – an artist, of course, but with that all-important and admirable human element. Lovely to listen to and experience.
