Even with its modern day energy that seems to fit well with the mainstream sound of today, TOXIUM’s “NEW WORLD” firmly introduces the artist as a unique act that undoubtedly has his own original approach to music, and it works; it balances those two factors extremely well.
“NEW WORLD” is a spacious and fairly dreamlike track, minimalist to an extent, but what’s there has been thoughtfully and colorfully incorporated – so as to drive that rhythm and melody through with memorable strength. It’s a hit within itself, easy to vibe to or escape among – and that’s before you even get to the hook.
TOXIUM has crafted this track in a manner that, should you choose to focus in on the details, lets you notice and appreciate every little element and every layer of audio that makes up the experience. At the same time though, and perhaps more importantly, the piece sees all of these building blocks effectively united within the track, so the music, as a complete and smooth wave of entertainment, needs little to no introduction or explanation. The balance between creativity, emotion, and professionalism, has been perfectly captured.
From a musical or compositional perspective, the track makes for a hypnotic and superbly impressive journey. Of course, the song and the video are inherently connected to the game of the same name, but even as a non-player – I found it to be incredibly interesting, provocative, and wonderful at every step. The whole sci-fi angle is intriguing and has been amazingly well presented here. The lyricism is on point and consistently seeks to blow your mind with its deep thinking and outside-the-box ideas.
For fans of Phonk in itself this is a must – the switch from the ever-rising intensity of the verses to the melodic-breakdown of the hook brings a certain House vibe to the stage. It gives you time to gather your thoughts – it’s a moment of calm in among the chaos.
The track works so well as its own release, in my opinion. TOXIUM is essentially bridging the gap between the music and gaming worlds, and perhaps more importantly – doing so with skill and relevance. This track sounds great, the lyrics and the delivery are compelling to witness, and there’s so much unexpected emotion involved too. Well worth exploring. And so begins the night-long journey into TOXIUM’s YouTube channel to date.
