Grinderhouse released Love Is Our Demand recently and it’s quite possibly his best single to date. A love letter to alt-rock in the vein of Beck meets Foster The People, Grinderhouse has a fun and infectious vibe to him without ever pandering or sounding too mainstream. It’s a fine line to walk, but he is an artist at the top of his game, and so far, Love Is Our Demand is one of the most enjoyable tracks of 2021.
Grinderhouse is the solo project of Antwerp-based producer and multi-instrumentalist David Hermans. He is a co-founder and a member of the New Rising Sun band. He uses Grinderhouse for his solo projects. He was inspired by artists like Damien Jurado, Sufjan Stevens, Sparklehorse. He uses all his experience and creativity to produce atmospheric sound, heavy in texture but soothing and melancholically profound. Everything about Love Is Our Demand is expertly mixed, sounds incredibly polished, and is well thought out.
The track is littered with one irresistible melody after another and is over before you know it. However, what seems like a fairly simple, and carefree love song hides a much deeper and darker secret. Once you listen to it you will look for more from Grinderhouse.
