What a stunning discovery. “Monarch Confessions” by “Popcypher” is likely to win your affection from the very start. The seductive hit of that soundscape is soon accompanied by a very thick yet mellow beat, both of which then come face to face with the slick and satisfying sound of the instruments – all in the opening moments, and from then on it’s nothing short of classic electronic bliss.
The song has an unusual concept to it, not so much the idea of foreplay, but the artist’s explanation of what it is to him. There’s a sweetness to the song that is quite unexpected – for the most part, the sense of metaphor is prevalent, but it works well in both instances. It’s really nice to hear something so open and honest, and this sort of reflective and mellow expression suits the acoustic setting brilliantly. The whole thing is gorgeous, that laid-back, mellow approach to music making always holds great appeal, and as mentioned, the artist’s voice has a wonderful warmth and slight croak of a person who lives well and experiences the world.
In terms of the songwriting, it’s a genuinely enjoyable few minutes of music and melody, and the whole thing does quite effectively get caught in your mind – the gentle nature of the music makes this a welcome experience, and it’s more than worth listening to a fair few times. It’s actually a really good starting point for listening to Popcypher in general. If you are indeed a fan of electronic and different kinds of music genres, you can trust this artist to make the sound that you want to hear. There’s plenty more music over on his Spotify page. Get involved.
The whole sound of this song has a greatly appealing hint of nostalgia to it, but for the first minute or so this is not something you’re too likely to think about. The elements of the song come in quite gradually, one by one, step by step, and each time it’s something that just makes you ecstatic that things are still far exceeding your expectations.
The intro sets the scene by itself, the music creates a mood that draws you in, welcomes you, and makes you feel at home – then really there is a moment of anticipation that the vocal or the hook or something that comes in, later on, will let the whole thing down, but it honestly never happens. The song has everything that fans will have loved back in the day, musically speaking and also in the substance; the ideas, the things that it wants you to think about. Alongside this though, it also brings something hugely exciting and fresh to the stage, and that leading vocal is just incredible.
