“Treacherous” is a pretty awesome new track from”Shady Bruddaz”. The overall vibe of the song has the distorted thickness of authentic hip hop, and among the riffs and melodies is this perfectly fitting and genuine level of emotion and passion that makes the genre what it is. The rapping sound can be practiced, but the realness can’t be faked. If an artist doesn’t have a through-and-through a passion for the music they’re playing, then it won’t connect. This is far from the case with Shady Bruddaz, and his latest release is a pleasure to discover.
The instrumentation throughout the recording is awesome and unique and loaded with character. Even the simplicity of that opening verse – the instrument part supports those initial lyrics and that melody beautifully. Everything builds appropriately yet unpredictably, and this is what keeps it so entertaining throughout. Soon enough the central rhythm of the piece steps into the spotlight and it’s as addictive and uplifting as you could hope for.
Creatively the whole thing features some awesomely stylish moments, and production wise the final polish lets each riff and each instrument stand tall as and when it should. Alongside all of this of course is the sound of the artist’s voice and the subject matter of the song. It’s a stylish and laid-back piece of writing, performed with a great level of energy. The more you listen, the more the song’s melody, lyrics and overall energy imprint their good vibes on you.
The great thing about the lyrics is that each one has a certain amount of appeal to it that stops you in your tracks a little. You’re unlikely to be able to get things done as the song rhythmically dictates the same problem, and with or without the video accompaniment – the song explores and invites you on a fairly irreplaceable journey that far outweighs any of the more responsible or necessary things you might have had planned today.
It’s a great sound in every way, and a great song – well written, structured with a little of the classic blues build but also a slightly more modern twist to really give those hook sections the best possible impact. The unique nature of it is appealing, but also the overall sound has the skill and satisfying crunch of any great hip hop track. The riffs have a simplicity that allows listeners to fully access the sentiment and soul of the song. It’s all at once subtle and big, drawing you in bit by bit, and making you keen to discover even more music from the artist.
